What is a nurse-midwife?

Nurse-midwives are like nurse practitioners who specialize in women’s health care, especially in the time surrounding pregnancy & birth. They first were educated and practiced as Registered Nurses, and then completed either a Masters degree or a Doctorate degree in Nurse-Midwifery. Nurse-Midwives support the natural process of pregnancy & birth and are educated to handle complications, if they arise.
